Cymbopogon citratus
This West Indian strain of Lemon Grass is clump forming, lemon scented evergreen grass has hollow cane-like stems narrow, strongly lemon-scented, pale blue-green leaves up to 90cm long.
It requires a sheltered site, with good drainage in full sun and is not frost hardy so move plants to a greenhouse or conservatory for the winter and keep them fairly dry.
Flowers are green and pinkish brown, in loose, branched sprays in late summer and autumn. The flowers rarely appear if grown under glass.
Great in Thai recipes, and can be added to stews and curries. Aromatic tropical grass. Versatile.
